Starting with a new project is always a challenge for me. It begins with finding the right yarn.
For the body I always use 100% cotton, so this decision is always the easy one. But for the hair, I always find it hard to choose. No matter how much you fill the neck part, if the yarn is heavy, it will always tilt the head. Some are practicing that they don`t attach the yarn in all the rows, but it just bothers me to do it that way, so there is always a lot of yarn on the head of my dolls.
I leave the hair long (unless customer wants something else), so girls can do her hair by them selves. For this mermaid, choosing colors was not a problem. From the start I knew I wanted to make rainbow mermaid, and I was lucky to find the yarn that has sparkles too... lucky me :)
But if I don`t know what I want, choosing colors can be a "painful" process ;) I never can choose right away. Just when I think that I like what I choose, I start all over again ;) I am always afraid to add more than 2 colors. I usually look at other similar items, and am so fascinated by the way creators choose so many colors in one piece, and make it look so beautiful. I never trust my decision. So when I receive a custom order, it is a chance for me to step out of my comfort zone and create something that I never thought of doing.
This mermaid was a lot of work. Hours of hard work. And no matter how frustrated I get in the middle of my projects, and a lot of times I just want to leave it, and do something else, I always love the ending result and it makes me so happy to see what I can create, and to see new owners of my items, and their faces is just icing on the cake.
